Develop Your Coaching Presence & Core Skills

Mentor Coaching Labs are a chance for you to coach, and receive expert feedback and mentoring from a PCC or MCC coach trainer. The feedback in Mentor Coaching is specifically tied to the ICF Core Competencies and designed to improve the quality of your coaching presence and skills.

Individual Mentoring

During your one on one Mentoring Session you will bring a sample of your coaching to class along with a question or area you have identified for further development. (Use the Learning Journal to guide you)The Mentor Coach will give you feedback and provide individual mentoring.

Mentor coaching is about developing a growth mindset, not about making sure you have ticked every competency off or showcasing a 'perfect' session. It is a place to learn, amongst your supportive peers, so settle in and feel comfortable to make mistakes!

  • Register for 6 sessions in the role of coach (over a period of 4 months)
  • Present a 10 minute sample of your coaching in each session

Group Mentoring

Group mentoring is a powerful way to develop your ability to observe core competencies in practice. The Mentor Coach will work with the group using the sample coaching presentations from class to dig deeper into the different ways a competency can show up in a session, and how to develop them in your own coaching.

  • Register for 4 sessions in the role of observer (over a period of 4 months)
  • Using the peer observation worksheet, observe the use of ICF competencies and compare this with the feedback of the mentor trainer

Fishbowl Learning

At its most basic a ‘Fishbowl’ conversation is a dialogue that occurs between a smaller group of people while a larger group look on. Mentor Coaching uses a 'Fishbowl Strategy' to enable all members of the class to participate in a highly engaged way. The Student Coach, Client and Mentor Trainer are inside the fishbowl, while all other students are outside; observing and reflecting. (Read more about Fishbowl Learning)
