There have been a few changes in the Program which require changes in the way we teach.
COACH SKILLS
The Trainer's Guide has been updated to include things like
- Encourage camera on for all students
- Begin the class with a screen share of the Module page (ie Learning Objectives etc.)
COACHING POWER TOOLS (FLIPIT)
One of the key things to note is that FlipIt can be used with groups/workshops etc or with individual clients. In the Power Tools course you will be demonstrating how to use FlipIt with individual clients
1. The Reframing Perspectives module now incorporates an introduction to FlipIt.
Introduce the concept “Reframing Perspectives” using FlipIt as an example. Give an overview of FlipIt, its origins, how it can be used etc. and then conduct a Flip It demo.
The FlipIt demo doesn't have to be long, you can pick a student and move through it in 20 mins, just enough time to give them an idea. I would tell them that too. I would explain that in practice you might take an hour, or run it in a 2 hour workshop but for the purposes of demonstrating you are going to move through more quickly than you might do otherwise.
2. Each Power Tools class includes a FlipIt Demo of that tool
Whenever you run a Power Tools class also include a quick 10 min demo of FlipIt using the Power Tool. So if the class is Action vs Delay ask for a student volunteer who has an issue or challenge where they think they might be sitting in the perspective of delay. Then, with that volunteer conduct a quick FlipIt demo.
COACHING COMPETENCIES LABS
These classes used to be called Coaching Labs. The slight change it to differentiate them from Coach Development Labs, and place the focus on the ICF competencies
Students are increasingly asking to see demonstrations of quality coaching by experienced coaches. Their feedback is that although they like to learn from their Peers, often they are at the beginning stages so they are not seeing what good coaching looks like.
Run the classes exactly as you have been, but instead of using student volunteers, or running a stop the clock, conduct the demo yourselves. Then afterwards discuss how and where the competency showed up. Any challenges, highlights etc.
COACH DEVELOPMENT LABS
These Labs are a new addition. They were introduced to give students more opportunities to practice coaching in a Mentor Coaching context. They are run exactly the same way as Mentor Coaching with the following differences:
- No need to register (so ask for volunteers at the beginning of class)
- Numbers are not capped
MENTOR COACHING
The Trainers Guide has been updated and includes key points
- Use of Learning Guide
- 15 minute sessions with feedback
- Longer Group segment if less than 2 students register to coach
- Trainer Demo if no students register to coach (rarely happens)
BUSINESS BUILDING & PORTFOLIO
Coach Portfolio
Coach Portfolio has been restructured. We will no longer run the “Workshop your Niche”, Workshop your Power Tool” classes. This content has been embedded into the curriculum elsewhere.
- Niche now sits in Business Building
- Power Tool, Model and Research Paper are now sitting under Learning Tasks
Business Building
We have moved Your Signature Offer from Group Coaching into Business Building. It will include classes and worksheets on:
- Signature Offer
- Get Your Coaching Practice Online
- Coach Starter Pack (no class)
Teach these classes in a workshop style, using the resources and frameworks provided. The main aim is to assist students to develop a Signature offer for their coaching practice, and to give them the basics of getting their business online. There is way too much material to cover in one hour. So give an overview of the 5 steps and run it as a workshop class.
Be more directive than just the "where are you all up to with this, does anyone have anything to share?" approach. Include an actual 'workshopping' of one of the steps with 1 or 2 of the students in the actual class. So help someone find their Passion, or help someone lock down their niche. It's not only good learning for the actual student but also all the students looking on. Then make sure everyone has an action before they leave.
GROUP COACHING
Group Coaching has been simplified and embedded into the curriculum
- Course incorporated into main program
- Will appear in Advanced schedule and run continuously
- One program outcome (Create Group Coaching Workshop Plan)
COACH SUPERVISION
Coach Supervision has been added to the Advanced Program to meet need for reflective practice
